Work Incentives Transition Network: Collaborators

    Institute for Community Inclusion

The Institute, in collaboration with the Federation for Children with Special Needs and the Disability Law Center, will be working with 4 school districts in Massachusetts to integrate information and support on SSI work incentives into the transition planning process. Students and families will receive information about work incentives through the IEP process, through locally provided training opportunities, and through parent and student mentors.

Approximately 60 students will receive focused career planning led by trained facilitators. The project will develop the capacity to support career goals for SSI recipients in the four schools by establishing work incentives teams that include regular and special education staff, families, and students that provide training and technical support to students and families. At a state level the project will work to incorporate a review of income support and work incentive needs into the Statement of Needed Transition Services. The goals of the project include:

Assist 4 schools in developing the capacity to support students to access work incentives and develop specific career objectives.

Establish statewide policy and technical information resources to support review of SSI issues and work incentives during transition planning.

Support 60 students to complete a person-centered career planning process and implement a personal work incentives plan.

Assess the barriers and facilitators of employment for young adults with disabilities who are receiving SSI benefits through a longitudinal study of 1 60 individuals' career paths and expectations.
